TROPICAL DISCOTHEQUE MIX
The crew here at THINKTWICEPRODUCTIONS have been pushing the tropical vibes a lot in perth at the moment. Every sunday at defectors bar "upstairs at the flying scotsman" and a monthly sunday at fremantle arts centre. So I have put this mixtape together of some of the flavours we will be spinning at these party's.

Handsome Paddy - Back to the boom bap
90's hip hop mix tapes are a dime a dozen these days all using the same old cliched jams. However handsome paddy comes through with some heavy underground 90's boom bap selections on this.

PERSONAL SPACE
PERSONAL SPACE - ELECTRONIC SOUL 1974-1984
This is seriously one of the best compilations I have ever, ever come across. Soul comps are a dime a dozen these days. Usually with all the same mayfield, o'jays e.t.c tracks showing no research or originality. Then there is those comps that are just perfect. Perfect track selection, perfect packaging, perfectly written liner notes.
THIS IS ONE OF THOSE COMPS.
The theme is to showcase some of the first ever recorded examples of drum machines and synths used in soul music. Usually recorded at the home on 8tracks I guess this is a compilation of some of the first bedroom producers. A unique sound of soul, jazz and blues with strong syncopated drum machine lines and synth pads and lead lines. Amazing music. Put out by chicago based "chocolate industries"this is definitely one to cop. my fav jam on the comp is probably "Key and Clearly", "A MAN" Peep below.

Menahan Street Band "The Crossing"
Menahan street band come drop their incredible new single "The Crossing". A deep raw funk/soul instrumental with awesome drums, the signature daptone horns and some harp goodness almost reminiscent of "Dorothy Ashby". If this tune is anything to go by the new album could even surpass the debut "Make the road By walking" if thats even possible. to stream click link below.

SCRATCH BASTID - SOUL SISTERS STAND UP
SCRATCH BASTID - SOUL SISTERS STAND UP
Canadian dj Scratch Bastid drops his latest mixtape soul sisters on us, an all sister soul and funk double mix. i had the pleasure of booking scratch for my club night early this year and he was hands down one of the best party rockers I'd ever seen. details and links below.
Dear fellow music junkie,
This is the Skratch Bastid writing to you on behalf of The Gaff and myself from my melted igloo in Toronto, Canada. Today, July 17th, we are releasing a mix that we've been working on for quite some time (read: forever) and I would love for you to have a listen to it. Prime summertime extended listening action here.
Soul Sisters, Stand Up! is an 80-minute mix filled with 100% Female Funk/Soul/R&B/Breaks. 2 DJs. 2 years in the making. Featuring the sounds of soulful ladies from the mid-60s & mid-70s – a snapshot of love, pain, happiness, oppression, strength, struggle and more from an era where records were the primary outlet for these voices. These messages are driven home by the beats and grooves from what is undeniably the funkiest decade in music history. From Freda, Aretha, Nina & Diana to Betty Everett, Lavette & Davis, we take you on a journey to a mindset, using tunes both classic and criminally overlooked to tell the story. Mixed together in classic mixtape fashion... you know, with mixing.

CUBAN FUNK - JUAN PABLO TORRES
JUAN PABLO TORRES - ALGO NUEVO
For some reason this is a record I put off buying for a while even though I knew it was dope. I had heard the tune "Son of propulsion" on a few mix tapes and comps and always really dug it. But I think I was too heavy into digging for Afro and Colombian stuff the last few years and Cuban funk was always pushed aside. Now I'm living for the funky cuban vibes.
So I finally saw it pop up on the bay and decided it was time to cop it. What I didn't realise though was the whole record is complete fire. It's the perfect blend of latin, psych, funk and rock. Another jam is the opening track "Y QUE BIEN", with the killer beatbox style latin intro this ones for the tropical heads.

keep diggin y'all!!!

people hear what they see
ODDISEE - PEOPLE HEAR WHAT THEY SEE.
Washington DC native ODDISEE has become an independent hip hop juggernaut. He has released more than 10 albums and mixtapes since 2005 and in 2009 and 2010 he produced four instrumental beat tapes.
His 2011 release "Rock creek Park" was definitely one of the best instrumental beat releases of the year.
People hear what they see is a great album which Oddisee raps on every tune. Fresh beats of mixed tempos. Mellow music group is giving away "Way in Way out" for free here
enjoy
DREAMING ABOUT YOU
THE BLACKBYRDS - DREAMING ABOUT YOU
Taken from the action album 1977 on fantasy records. Such a smooth, rare groove, soulful joint with a killer break at the intro. For me this jam always was overshadowed by "Mysterious Vibes" taken from the same album. Going back over your Lp's from time to time you realise you tend to forget about all these great jams you have.
sampled by Scientifik's Zhane, Kool G Rap and Dj Polo to name a few this is a well loved rare groove number from one of the finest in the bizz.

TROPHIES
OC & APOLLO BROWN - TROPHIES
D.I.T.C veteran "OC" links with detroit beat wizard "Apollo Brown" for this album "Trophies".
This is raw hip hop soul beats mixed with intelligent, witty lyricism. OC has always been criminally "slept on" as this album proves. He paints a clear picture of who he is and where he came from in on these 16 tracks. Apollo certainly comes correct and has produced an album anyone with a penchant for dusty boom bap hip hop will enjoy.
Mellow Music Group have even given away the joint "People's Champ" for free

BITERS
Mellow Music Group hits us again with another slice of pure hip hop. Dj Soko provides the cuts, Gensu Dean provides the beat and detroit legend Guilty Simpson provides the rhymes.
Seriously Guilty is on fire right now. I believe it may finally be his time. Fresh from his amazing colab with Eric Lau Guilty attacks the biters of the world with his unmistakable flow. Very clever cuts on this tune from acapella samples of Biggie, Mobb deep and James Brown.

Nasty NAS back in the building.
This dude is unstoppable right now after "Dirty", "Ghetto Dreams" ft common and His awesome colab with Damian Marley, Nas has once again secured himself at the top of the game.
Perhaps influenced by his time with Damian Marley this beat kicks off with heavy rasta chant heavy drums Produced by Salaam Remi, Da Internz and the late great "HEAVY D".

Union Analogtronics
After waiting patiently behind two singles, a dope video, and a neon-blue triangle shaped vinyl, Union is ready to unleash the most musically challenging, painstakingly crafted, MC-packed album in the dawn of 2012 - Analogtronics. Featuring Talib Kweli, Elzhi, MF DOOM, Roc Marciano, Guilty Simpson, Syl Johnson and P towns own "Rachel Claudio" Union produces space-aged bangers that mold perfectly around each guest, in addition to sprinkling in a few lush, eye-widening instrumentals. This is the full length we have all been waiting for, as bonus tracks provide over twenty songs hypnotic interstellar boop-bap.
