Xmas came early this year. This mixtape seems like something I have been waiting along time for. Its not everyday 2 of your top G.O.A.T Mc's drop a free tape. Bussa Buss and Tip dropped their new mixtape "THE ABSTRACT & THE DRAGON" for free download yesterday (see below)following on from their new great new single the Alicia Meyers sampling "ThankYou", and it definitely didn't disappoint. Filled with some great new material such as "We takin off", "Butch & Sundance" and the title track. Also a Kid capri remix of thankYou which is basically just capri shouting over the intro. It also includes some great old gems like the scenario remix , vivrant thing & for the nasty. If I had only 1 complaint it would be that I would like some more new stuff on there but overall it really showed the amazing partnership of these two giants who have been collaborating together for over 20 years now. Peep the dl here.

So I realised after spending so much time trying to hustle myself onto other peoples blogs and radio shows I had totally forgot about my own hahaha. In fairness I have been flat out the past few weeks with gigs and travel. So here is my latest "Gimme Something" feat one of my favourite Mc's out TY. Its an uptempo afro beat affair using various rare afro funk samples , Rhodes, live horns from the ruby horns and Live guitar from Nick Sheppard (the clash). Peep on my Bandcamp below for a name your price deal. Peace

Gene Dudley is a 27 year old Uk musician firmly rooted in soul , jazz and funk. Playing most of the instrumentation on the album himself his talent is certainly exceptional. Lovers of the Daptone sound "Menahan st band" , "Lee fields" will feel right at home with Gene Dudley. Peep the album here
Myron & E are a colab between a south central born soul singer and a new jersey dj/producer. On this Album they have imported the funk and soul talents of "The Soul Investigators". A fantastic record with ranged tempos but all songs firmly rooted in soul. My 2 favourite jams are "If I gave you my love" and the breakbeat tune "Everyday Love". Cop the album here

2013 the number. Another summer. And arriving just in time for hot big fun in the summertime is the latest mix from DJ Ivory of the P Brothers – the esteemed Nottingham, UK-based scratch selector responsible for the classic “Hear No Evil” series. Like the genre-crossing HNE 3, “Summer In Notts” assuredly interweaves varied styles – classic breaks and reinterpretations, hip-hop favorites, go-go, R&B and more – with the OG Bronx-informed aesthetic the P’s are known for. No track list, so you’ll just have to listen through to find out what’s fully in store (a very good thing, BTW). Listen and be ready on the firing line… with them super-soakers.

Porter Chops Glasper is the first in a series of instrumental albums planned from Grammy Award-winning artist Denaun Porter, the producer working as “Mr. Porter” for the likes of hip-hop’s Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg, and worldwide icons like Burt Bacharach, Beyonce and Shakira. The album is inspired by the music of fellow Grammy Award-winning jazz musician Robert Glasper. Porter explains, “Long story short, I am a fan of Robert Glasper. This project contains samples of music of his from the internet, official releases, and even live performances I saw on YouTube. Porter Chops is a representation of when, I feel, the business side of things interfere too much with my creative process. ”

‘2sides’ is a magical blend of everything that Kid Fonque is loved for: broken beats, house, jazziness and a hint of hip hop. An elegant piano loop dances on a warm bass drum - then a bass melody creeps in. Now we’re on the dancefloor. Clever, intricate percussive elements evoke the hum of a smoky Jazz club - hands clap and hi-hats snap. Just when you think this groove has reached its final destination – The Layders’ king of keys - ‘V The Vowel’ lays down an infectious melody and the script is flipped. The cherry on top? ‘Theo Parrish’ talking you through his DJ philosophy. It’s fresh and full of surprises - your new favourite tune has arrived.

Roughly a year on from Beat Installments Vol. 1, which continues to get a lot of spins, Japan’s DJ Mitsu The Beats is back with another batch of jazz-heavy beats in Vol. 2. I think no2 is a stronger release. Nice mix of jazz, bossa nova, and funk.

Detroit's Black milk hits us with a new very gospel inspired single Sundays best/ Mondays worst. For me its all about sundays best. I love the sound of gospel being flipped into dirty detroit style crunchy hip hop.To me the beats are very reminiscent of Apollo Brown.

Its been a while since we heard from Dj Day. His seminal 2008 release "The Day Before" was a big influence on me and a record I have happily kept in my bag since. Upon listening to "Land of 1000 chances" I can honestly say it is some of day's more experimental work. Jazz, instrumental rock and hip hop all get touched in this release.
executively produced by "Thes One" of "People under the stairs" fame and featuring some top notch muso's such as "Kat 010" from "Crown city Rockers", Land of 1000 chances is an honest and beautiful release. Despite the personal demons Day had to fight see below.
The idea for all of this was to go back to my roots and encapsulate the last few years of what was going on in my life. I needed to get away from the clean, over-produced music I was making that had slowly put me in a creative corner cover the last 5 years. I was stuck. It’s not in me to make electronic music (I suck at it to be honest) and I didn’t want to re-hash the cut and paste stuff I had done before, so what the fuck do I do now? I go back. Back to the first album I ever made in a bedroom in Palm Springs with an EPS, my cousins drum kit and some records. I had to get back to where I came from in order to harness where I was now. Fuck layering and smothering songs to oblivion. These needed to breathe. Keep it intentionally sparse and simple. It had to be about creating a vibe and sticking to it. Not throwing in a random dance cut or having it cluttered with guests. It had to be honest and real. Somewhere along the way, I ended up drinking way too much, traveling and hanging out way too much and on the precipice of divorce. They say write what you know, so I did. - Day

While the rest of the worlds hip hop artists are producing half time, low slung 70 bpm club tunes, it's refreshing to Hear certain artists from NY (Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson e.t.c) keeping the golden era head nodders alive.
20 year old BK kid Joey Bada$$ seems to definitely be a breath of fresh air in hip hop today. Spitting concious lyrics over crunchy drums. And who else to provide the soundtrack then The living legend "Dj Premier". In his signature simple chops and breaks with scratch hooks and Joey's very brooklyn flow this tune is more new york than a chill dawg!!!!
